To help you make the most of your time with us at Goulton Beck, here are some of the best things to do in Northallerton and the surrounding areas.

Friday evening

After enjoying your scenic drive to Goulton Beck, you can drop your bags and settle back into your relaxing routine. After all, your holiday home is a place to decompress and enjoy your home away from home.

Take your first moments back to get comfy with a cup of tea and catch up with your friendly holiday home neighbours. Once you’ve touched base, it’s time for a delicious dinner after your journey.

Within a 4-minute drive, you have the selection of three welcoming eateries:

  • Tomahawk Steakhouse, Potto: A specialist country steak restaurant and bar serving Himalayan salt dry-aged steaks, Wagyu, and vegetarian dishes.
  • Black Horse Inn, Swainby: A quaint country pub serving home-cooked food with a stellar selection of cask ales.
  • Blacksmiths Arms, Swainby: Another cosy pub serving up a variety of dishes, ranging from curries and steaks to pasta and hearty pies.

If you fancy a 20-minute drive out to the market town of Northallerton in North Yorkshire, you’ll find a high street filled with dinner and drink options. Here are our top picks:

  • Origin Social: A small-plate restaurant focusing on bold and fresh flavours, as well as an extensive range of cocktails, beers, and wines. Ideal for couples.
  • Willow Beck: A family-friendly, restaurant-style pub with a selection of traditional classics.
  • Bianco Ristorante: An Italian restaurant serving up good food made with quality ingredients at an affordable price.

Saturday

There are many things to do and days out in North Yorkshire, no matter what kind of stay you’re after. Whether you’re a couple, a family, or staying at your holiday home solo, see what takes your fancy from the ideas below.

A seafront walk and shopping in Saltburn-by-the-Sea

There’s nothing better than starting your weekend with a coastal walk. Just 20 miles from our holiday park, Saltburn-by-the-Sea is a charming location filled with Victorian-style architecture and an insightful arts and culture scene. This seaside walk is one of many free things to do in North Yorkshire.

The high street is lined with independent retailers and charity shops, and there are plenty of beachside cafes for a pit stop. To stretch your legs, walk down to Saltburn Pier or take a hike around Hunt Cliff Nature Reserve. If the weather allows it, why not go for a dip?

Fancy a woodland walk instead? Check out our guide to walking routes near the Goulton Beck Luxury Lodge Park.

See the animals at Newham Grange Farm

Perfect for families, there’s so much to do at Newham Grange Farm that you could easily spend the whole day there!

Walk around the park and spot chickens, ponies, piglets — and even llamas and wallabies. Little ones won’t know what to do with themselves with the number of activities on offer, ranging from an adventure play zone and discovery barn to a woodland walk and imaginary play town.

There’s even a budget-friendly cafe serving light bites, sweet treats, and drinks.

Looking for more unusual things to do in North Yorkshire? We also recommend checking out The Forbidden Corner for a family-friendly experience packed with tunnels, chambers, and plenty of surprises.

Go back in time at Newby Hall & Gardens

Open from March 2025 for the spring/summer season, Newby Hall is home to one of Europe’s largest double herbaceous borders and a gorgeous Grade I listed building.

It’s considered one of the best things for families to do in North Yorkshire — and with so many activities within its walls, it’s easy to see why. Whether you spend the day exploring the house and the gardens, enjoy a boat trip along the River Ure, or cause mischief in the adventure playground and miniature railway, there’s fun for all age groups.

After all the merriment, don’t forget to have something to eat and drink at The Garden Restaurant, serving up hearty dishes made with locally sourced ingredients.

Sunday

Your weekend at Goulton Beck isn’t over yet. After rustling up a Sunday fry-up using ingredients bought at the local shops, you can either spend your last day soaking up the picturesque surroundings or relaxing in your holiday home.

If you’re up for another morning of adventure, why not drive into the surrounding towns of Yarm and Stokesley?

Yarm has a beautiful riverside and is also home to a 15th-century bridge — one of the oldest surviving bridges in the country. The next closest town is Stokesley, also known as a gateway to the North York Moors. It has an indoor play barn for those rainy Yorkshire days with family, but if the weather is nice, you’ll have plenty of fun strolling past the quaint grocers, butchers, and shops. We recommend popping into Milk and Grind or Lip Smackers for some lunch.

When your day comes to an end, it’s time to pack up your car, say goodbye to your neighbours, and get on the road. Don’t be too sad, though — your holiday home at Goulton Beck Holiday Park will always be ready and waiting for your return.
