Covering a massive 375 acres, it features a zoo, a theme park, food kiosks, and so much more. 

Fun fact: The resort dates back to the 1950s and was named after its very first residents. It was one of the earliest UK zoos to display the iconic pink birds – flamingos. Since then, it has become a much-loved part of the North Yorkshire holiday scene, with many more animals and attractions joining the space.

Flamingo Land Zoo

Before the rides and other attractions, Flamingo Land started out as a zoo. Wildlife is still very much at the heart of this Yorkshire venue. 

Showcasing animals from around the world, the zoo gives visitors the chance to see and learn about some incredible creatures. From pythons to cheetahs and capybaras to kangaroos, there are hundreds of reptiles, mammals, marsupials, and birds to discover.

  • Sik: With 10 inversions, including a 25-metre loop, and speeds of 54mph, Sik is a must-try for adrenaline seekers. It’s the latest addition to the theme park and guarantees screams! Top tip: Head to Sik early in the day to avoid long queues.
  • Mumbo Jumbo: This vibrant rollercoaster is both eye-catching and jaw-dropping. Experience a G-force of up to 4g and let the twists and turns take you on an adventure.
  • Pterodactyl: Soar 151 feet and circle over Dino-Stone Park on this rotating thrill ride. You’ll fly at speeds of 25mph, veering horizontally as you go!
  • ​​Twistosaurus: This family ride combines spinning and twisting with the ups and downs of a rollercoaster track at just the right speed for kids and adults alike.
  • Frog Hopper: A scaled-down version of Flamingo Land’s adult Cliff Hanger Ride, Frog Hopper is the perfect vertical drop ride for children.

Food and drink

If you need to have a rest and refuel between activities, Flamingo Land has a selection of restaurants, cafes, and bars. So whether you want a quick snack, a hearty portion of fish and chips, or a cuppa, you’ll find plenty of options.

Get your caffeine fix at the Muddy Duck Cafe, where you can enjoy Costa coffee and a range of sandwiches and grab-and-go goodies. If you’re looking for something more substantial, tuck into pub grub at The Coach House, a burger at The Gourmet Grill, or a sophisticated Sunday roast at The Dewars Restaurant. 

Other options include the glitzy Zoo Bar, and the Zanzibar Food Market, home of the Burger Shack.

There are toilets throughout all areas of the zoo and theme park, including accessible toilets for disabled visitors.

Flamingo Land opening times

The park is open every day from March to November. The gates usually open at 9.30am, with rides opening at 10am. Depending on the time of year, the resort closes at 4pm, 5pm, or 6pm. 

There’s always something different to see, so why not invest in an annual pass? This can be a great way to see how young animals grow and change over the course of the year.

If you’re staying at Goulton Beck, the journey to Flamingo Land is a straightforward drive along the B1257. It should generally take you just under an hour by car.

You can visit Flamingo Land any time in the spring, summer, and autumn. If you’re bringing the kids and want to make the most of children’s activities, there’s plenty on during the school holidays. It does get busy at these peak times, so it’s best to book in advance. 

If you’d prefer to visit at a less busy time, head over on a weekday during term time, and you’ll be able to have a more relaxed experience with fewer crowds and queues.

A full day is an ideal amount of time to explore Flamingo Land’s key features. However, there’s always something new going on, so you may wish to return throughout the year to experience different events and attractions.

Dogs are welcome in most parts of Flamingo Land. The exceptions are the zoo, Children’s Planet, and Splish Splosh. All dogs must be kept on leads, and assistance dogs are allowed in all areas of the resort.

Flamingo Land has something for every age group, including young children. Please bear in mind that there are minimum height restrictions on some of the main theme park rides. However, there are plenty of rides and attractions for smaller children.

You can print your Flamingo Land tickets ahead of your visit but if you don’t have access to a printer, you can download your tickets onto your phone or device instead.
